| In a
Tunnel filled with
Cars.
All of a sudden
You realize that soon
It will all end.
The bricks and dust
You have for-seen just
Seconds before, as if in a
Dream begin to crumble.
Somehow knowing that you're not
Alone brings you
Consolation .
You recall the placid faces adorning a
Placid evening in the smoky sun.
Smiles and wind and hair and the
Solitary man in the carpool lane.
That there are others still locked,
As if in a frame or memory,
Begging and pleading, as the
Blackened sky starts to fall, gives
Comfort.
There is comfort knowing that you're not
Alone--
Not the only
One.
And the dreams you've kept locked away deep in your
Mind begin their descent with the first
Pieces of dust.
All at once
You wonder, but not in
Horror
All at once time slows to a
Halt.
The bizarre
Fascination captivates.
From your mind you wonder...
What will come?
What will they say?
Whom shall I follow?
And you know that it will soon be over.
Large rocks and soot fall to the same
Shield that needed only to protect from the wind.
You think of the funeral
The sunsets.
The games.
The smells.
The songs.
The
Subtleties.
You think of the fleeting
Moments you will soon become in
Every one else's memory, and
Even Altruism finds its foe.
You wish and fulfill all that would have
Been all at once.
Could you have been all at once?
You would have tried.
You would have been and never missed the
Happiness or the
Sadness that has made it it.
For now,
It's the fact that you're not
Alone.
And now is the end of it
All.
And as some heavy, sullen
Object breaks free of its
Bonds and breaks the
Canopy, you save one last
Thought
That never will you know.
